Prawirotaman - Yogyakarta

Prawirotaman is an area around 5 km to the south of the Keraton which provides many low-budget lodgings as well as cafés and shops of various typical Yogyakartan items and souvenirs. The area has been well known for its lodging and hotel business since the 19th century. The history began when a palace officioal, named Prawirotomo was granted a piece of land by the Sultan. The land was later named after him, Prawirotaman.

Prawirotomo had three sons – the late Werdoyoprawiro, Suroprawiro, and Mangunprawiro – who all pursued the batik business. It was one of the few batik producing centers in Yogyakarta at that time. As the tourist industry grew quickly in the late 1960s, the brothers abandoned the batik business and invested their money on hotel business. Since then, the family has been running more than 60% of the hotels in the area.

Prawirotaman is one Indonesia Java International Destination ini Yogyakarta.
